Why this site exists

I was bored at work. That's the honest version.

I'm a Director of Affiliates with 9+ years in sales and leadership roles. The work is fine, but like most people in office jobs, I had hours of low intensity time every week. Meetings I didn't need to lead, gaps between deliverables, the slow afternoons.

In 2024, instead of using that time to scroll LinkedIn or refresh the same news sites, I decided to learn AI. Not because I was worried it would take my job. Just because it seemed like the most useful skill to pick up while sitting at a desk anyway.

Boredom at Work is what came out of that decision. The site started as my personal log of AI tools and tutorials, and grew into the topics my brother and I are genuinely curious about: AI tools, 3D printing, e-readers, photography, home office gear, and AI travel planning.

The promise

Every article on this site comes from real use. If I review a 3D printer, I've printed with it. If I recommend an AI tool, I've used it for actual work. If I write a city guide, I've been there. If I compare e-readers, I've held both.

I'm not interested in the affiliate arbitrage route. That's the kind of site where every product is "the best" and every recommendation is whatever pays the highest commission. I want Boredom at Work to be the kind of site I'd actually want to read.

That means honest pros and cons, real costs in real currencies, occasional photos of my own gear or trips, and admitting when something isn't worth it. It also means saying "I haven't tried this yet" instead of pretending otherwise.

What you'll find here

The content clusters reflect what we actually do, not what ranks easiest on Google:

  • AI tools: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and the working habits that actually save time
  • 3D printing: printers, slicers, troubleshooting, and the projects worth your filament
  • E-readers and Kindle: comparisons, accessories, sideloading, and reading habits
  • Home office: desks, chairs, monitors, and what's actually worth upgrading
  • Photography: beginner cameras, gear, and the editing tools we actually use
  • AI travel planning: real trip reports, prompts that work, and destination guides
